Objective:
This five (5) days course has been designed to train participants in project management skills specifically related to informatics projects within the Federal government. Project risk is a major theme throughout the course. Leadership issues related to project management are also addressed.
At the end of the course, participants will:
- understand the project managers role;
- understand what is involved in planning an informatics project;
- be able to plan a project using Work Breakdown Structure, including task breakdown, estimating and scheduling;
- acquire the skills in executing and controlling an informatics project;
- be able to bring a project to the end and reassign resources; and
- gain an understanding of commonly applied project management tools including software packages.
Duration: 5 days
Target Population: Employees of the Public Service who will undertake management or leadership functions within an informatics project.
Pre-requisite: Participants must possess some understanding of the fundamentals of automated systems and their development.

Hours: 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. – 1 hour for lunch
Outline:
Within the framework of informatics guidelines and standards, participants will learn how to plan an informatics project and how to carry that project to successful implementation of the planned initiative. The structure of the course is based on applying the project management techniques of planning, organizing and controlling an informatics project, as well as bringing it to a successful completion.
