Objective: 

To ensure participants are aware of contracting authorities and the manager’s responsibilities and those of Materiel Management and available services within the Federal Government. Although the course will address the different types of contracts, the emphasis will be on contracting for services.

At the end of the course, participants will :

  • understand the roles and responsibilities of the Materiel Management, operational managers and administrative personnel;
  • understand their responsibilities and be able to exercise their delegated authorities;
  • understand the difference between financial and contracting authorities;
  • understand the contract management process and the competitive process; and
  • be able to avoid common pitfalls in contracting.

Target Population: Materiel Management and Contracting Staff and administration personnel

Minimum/Maximum participants: 6/16

Hours: 8:30 to 4:30 p.m., 1 hour for lunch

Outline: 

The course will allow participants to become familiar with the different phases of contract management, to identify the risks and responsibilities and discuss bests practices. The participants will have the opportunity to discuss different authorities between the operational managers, the project managers, the contracting authorities and the delegation from Public Works and Government Services Canada and from Treasury Board. Participants will have the opportunity to address methods of client interviews to determine their needs and ask for specific details for the contract management, prior to award, through the use of scenarios and case studies.
