Objective: 

Provides participants with the in-depth knowledge and techniques required to support the acquisition of higher dollar value or high risk goods and services.
At the end of this course, participants will:

  • Be familiar with new policies and issues that impact on government;
  • Be able to determine needs and prepare effective Statements of Work;
  • Know ho to evaluate bids using various methods and set up evaluation committees;
  • Know how to negotiate effectively with suppliers;
  • Be familiar with the basic concepts of risk management and alternative dispute resolution; and
  • Understand the government’ intellectual property policy and its applications.

Duration: 5 days

Target Population: experienced contracting officers and managers involved in contracting in high-dollar value or high-risk goods and services for their own area on behalf of the government.

Pre-requisite: All participants should have participated in the Introduction to Procurement course and/or have experience in the contracting field, since this course concentrates on advanced contracting methods and interpretation of new policies.

Hours: 8:30AM – 4:30 p.m., 1 hour for lunch

Outline: 

Participants will address the pitfalls of contracting and recognize when legal or other assistance is required within a government environment. Participants will be able to recognize the need for the various types of evaluation criteria, evaluation methods and selection strategies. Scenarios and case studies have been developed to provide practical application of the principles addressed during the course.
